LEARNING MODERN DANCE FROM A BOOK (16 TIMES)
SINGLE channel video, 6 Min 50 sec
This is a performance for video piece in which the artist attempts to teach herself basic modern dance moves from a tutorial book without previous modern dance experience. The piece proposes the idea of learning as performance, instead enhancing the repetition and awkwardness involved in training the body. The jump-cut, lyrical editing allows the dancer to transcend the original intention of each move.
The piece was originally formatted to play on a DVD that would randomize the 16 actions, remixing the order of the short sections of the video each time it played.
